Released in 1971, Sticky Fingers became one of the most famous collaborations between Andy Warhol and The Rolling Stones. The original LP featured a real working zipper on the cover, transforming the record sleeve into an object that listeners could physically interact with.
The identity of the model shown on the cover remains one of the great mysteries of rock design. Although many assumed it was Mick Jagger, several people connected to Warhol's circle have been suggested over the years, including actor Joe Dallesandro, dancer Eric Emerson and Warhol's partner Jed Johnson. Warhol never revealed the answer.
The ambitious design created unexpected problems. Record stores complained that stacked copies damaged the vinyl inside, forcing the zipper to be partially opened before shipping. Despite these complications, the cover became one of the most recognizable images in rock history and helped establish the album as a design icon.
