Today considered a classic of the hard bop era, The Congregation features one of Andy Warhol's most striking collaborations with Blue Note Records. Working alongside art director Reid Miles, Warhol created an illustration based on saxophonist Johnny Griffin. Rather than depicting Griffin's full likeness, he cropped the face and focused attention on the musician's saxophone and patterned shirt. The vibrant colors and dynamic composition reflect the energy and creativity of the music itself. Warhol's signature can still be found beneath the figure on the left side of the cover.
