Artie Shaw is widely regarded as one of the greatest clarinetists in jazz history. This 1956 release brings together recordings from the peak of his career during the 1930s and 1940s. Rather than portraying the musician himself, Andy Warhol focused on what made Shaw instantly recognizable: his hands and clarinet. Inspired by a 1941 studio photograph, Warhol transformed the instrument into the central visual element of the design. Combined with technical typography and a carefully balanced composition, the cover feels remarkably modern and demonstrates Warhol's growing confidence as a designer.
